The tallmanian Movie Challenge - Round 8 Answers

by tallman

The winner of round 4 is... Samael, with 7 correct answers plus a bonus point for a very funny guess (for a total of 8 points). Several others got 6 with a bonus point, but Sovawanea got a "natural" 7 points. Great job, and thanks for all who participated.

A middling month in terms of difficulty. It certainly wasn't the hardest, but some of them were apparently tough screens for easy movies. Right now, Samael and Sovawanea are doing pretty well on the cumulative front... So here are the answers to round 8:

Screenshot 1: Star Trek
A pretty easy one, and most everyone got it, so no funny guesses (except for someone who gave a funny guess and a real guess - but this isn't "Trekkies")

Screenshot 2: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
This one did not fare so well, but a majority still got it. It's not "Star Trek: First Contact" and it's certainly not "Porky's IX: The Nipple Descends" (though I wouldn't be surprised if the venerable Porky's franchise made it to a ninth installment).

Screenshot 3: Goodfellas
This is probably a tough screenshot for an easy movie. Even Sam got this one wrong! A bunch did get it right though, and some guessed it was "My Dinner With Andre" or "The Dinner Club", both of which are obviously wrong:p

Screenshot 4: Inglourious Basterds
Most of you got this, except for one poor soul who guessed "No, Angelina, We Are NOT Adopting Pee Wee."

Screenshot 5: Kill Bill: Vol. 1
This one seemed marginally harder than the other Tarantino movie on this list, prompting answers like "The Convict (tagline: How one man saved the world from ninja lawyers.)" and "The Eye Of Sauron: Cataract Edition"

Screenshot 6: Mallrats
No, it's not "Memoirs Of A Geisha" or "Men Are from Mars, Women Won't Listen to My Feelings", but it is a pretty solid Kevin Smith movie.

Screenshot 7: Moon
Low budget indie-SF film from last year, a few of you got this. Others guessed "The Lumberjack's Wife" or "VH1 Behind The Music: Moby" and even "I have no idea and I am too tired to think of anything funny." (heh)

This one's been a long time coming. It would have been great if Aether had not picked up on this, but alas, he got it right. Darn. Others thought that perhaps it was Marlon Brando and thus the answer was Godfather, but that's actually Anthony Hopkins there. Anyway, best answer for this: "J. Edgar Hoover Hates the World"

Screenshot 9: Hard Boiled
John Woo's Hong Kong action classic. It's perhaps a little dated at this point, but it's hard to beat the opening and closing action sequences. I'm surprised that no one got this at all. I mean, Chow Yun Fat's face is obscured, but then again, this is one of the most iconic shots of the movie, and it's the one they always put on the cover of the DVD. If you haven't seen it and like action films, it's well worth a rental! Fun answers include "Casablanca II: The End Of A Beautiful Friendship" and "21 Jump Street the Movie: Jump Harder"

And... yep, everyone got this right. Nice work people!

That wraps up this round.
