This week we finish the tits with the mightiest of them all: the great tit.
This one is very similar to the coal tit. However, there are some differences I've spotted. The white on the head is not so much triangular as semi-circular. A more obvious (but sometimes harder to see) difference is that there's a big black stripe down the great tit's yellow body.
As its name suggests, the great tit is the largest of them all, although the difference is not incredibly noticeable given they're still quite small.
They can be seen throughout the country's woods parks and gardens, excepting in a few of the more distant Scottish islands, for the entire year. Like other tits, they eat insects, nuts and seeds.
Like blue and coal tits they can be attracted simply by putting out a bird feeder and are pretty common.

Next time we'll cover the house sparrow, with some quite good photos.
