Our IOTM (Interview of the Month) features Domino and a conversation about her photography. Peek inside the mind of this 4th K artist!

1) Tell us 3 little-known facts about you (not necessarily just about your art, but you in general), at least little known to the 4th K community.
Oh little known facts about me... hmmm... I have been wearing the same perfume for over 10 years now, I have 1800 hours in Cosmetology but hated the smells so much I could not fathom being around it as my profession. I will not live in the states my whole life.
2) What's your weapon of choice? And by weapon, of course I mean camera.
Right now I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ8, I would love to get my Mom's old 35 mm with etched lenses *drool*. I would also like to upgrade to Canon EOS 5D if and when I decide to turn hobby into more.
3) How long have you been into photography?
I started learning about Photography when I was around six years old, then again in my early 20's but it has only been recently that I have put effort in to developing my personal style and taste.
4) Do you recall the first picture you took and it occurred to you that you had the proverbial "eye" for photos?
Not really, I would love to say yes to this question and give you one heck of an awesome story, but eh... I don't have one.
5) What is it about various subjects or scenes that inspires you to photograph them?
This is a hard question, when I see something that resonates within me to take a picture... hmm it varies so much, it could be the way the light hits and I feel a childhood memory try to surface but not make it. It could be the things I think are cool and I want to emulate them. It could be me showing the world when I feel happiness and or pain and I can't shoulder it alone but even if others see it I am still alone in that feeling.. Does that even make sense?
6) Do you consider yourself your own worst critic and/or a perfectionist? If so, why?
I am so mean to myself, I think everything is shite!! But if you were to show me something I did in 6 months I will be like "Oh WOW that is awesome who did that??". I expect so much from myself because I was told that I had talent since I was a little one and I still to this day think I have faked my way through people's perceptions to be liked. I hero worship some photographers and try to emulate their talent because I feel I have none of my own.
7) Many people worry about turning a hobby into a job, thinking they might not enjoy it after it's their source of income. What are your thoughts about this, and would you ever consider photography as your primary job?
I was the Head photographer of a portrait studio before and that is a field I will never never do again. If I were to have a studio and market my pictures it would be so different from the forced commercially I had to endure. As an artist forcing me to do the same 5 poses over and over again in 16 minutes burnt me out to the point I would take pictures that would always get me written up. I was a rebel! LOL
8) Do you belong to any photography clubs in your community or online?
Not yet, but I am looking.
9) If you could choose to excel at any one artistic medium besides photography, what would it be (sculpting, drawing by hand, etc.)
Let's see, I won a scholarship in the 7th grade for drawing, I have never sculpted but I am sure that would be a blast, I love to sew. To excel at one thing...................I can't pick! I just can't!
10) What kind of advice might you offer to someone who wants to sharpen and hone their artistic photographic skills? What have you found to be most useful to you when capturing your personal favorites?
TAKE YOUR TIME.... it will always be there in one form or another you just have change perspective.
We thank Domino for taking the time to share her thoughts with us. Please check out her amazing work on http://poofmd.deviantart.com/.
