Ink Blot
Birdwatching

by Temujin

This time we're looking at the coot.

It is a black water bird typically found inland on lakes and reservoirs, as well as rivers, with a white beak and red eyes.

They are present in the UK throughout the year, and are related to (but larger than) the moorhen.

They're over a foot long, and eat insects as well as plants.

If I've got a decent photograph of them I might look at its cousin, the moorhen.
