A rather low quality picture this week. It's a female sparrowhawk I saw for about 10 seconds in the back garden right after it had made a kill (hence the feathers). We've found a few skeletal remains within a mile of the house, and today I saw a ruined grass nest, so hopefully the sparrowhawk is doing well.

They are found throughout the UK with a few exceptions, and there are about 40,000 breeding pairs.
