The tallmanian Movie Challenge: Round 1 Answers
by tallman
And the winner of the first round of the movie contest is... a tie! Bouchie and Sovawanea both got 5 right!
So not a lot of entries this month, but I had fun, so I'll be doing at least one more round. I may have made some of these too hard, so I'll try and keep them a little less crazy in the next round. Anyway, I'm sure you're all burning with desire to see the answers, so here they are:
(Click on each image to see a larger version)
Screenshot 1: Aliens
I thought this was one of the easiest ones, yet there was at least one person who didn't get it! I gave half a point if you guessed Alien, but if you guessed Transformers(!?) you got nothing. Transformers! Let me say right now that no screenshot in this series will ever be from Transformers. Anyway, Aliens is one of my favorite movies of all time, and if you haven't seen it, get thee to a rental place or something. Just watch it. It's great.
Screenshot 2: Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Everyone got this one. Not a big surprise. Move it along. Nothing to see here.
Screenshot 3: The Dark Knight
Yeah, not so creative with that title screen, Mr. Nolan. But a good job with the movie. Good enough that everyone got this one right. Score.
Screenshot 4: Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Another one that everyone got. Great job people!
Screenshot 5: Dawn of the Dead (1978)
And it appears I stumped everyone with this one. Some interesting guesses: Thinner, Dracula, and of course, Nixon.
Screenshot 6: The Italian Job (1969)
I was pleasantly suprised that someone got this one. The picture I chose was pretty cool, but it featured a bit player and none of the stars (perhaps using a screenshot of Michael Caine would have been better).
Screenshot 7: Kiss Me Deadly
So you know in Pulp Fiction when Jules and Vincent go to that apartment and kill everyone looking for that suitcase? And when you open the suitcase, all you see is a golden sorta light, but you never actually find out what's in the suitcase? Yeah, Tarantino was basically paying homage to this film, a classic film noir. It's semi-obscure, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that no one got it, but still. Best guess for this one: "[old atari commercial]" - I laughed for a good 5 minutes at that one. Incidentally, I have no idea why the title screen says Deadly Kiss Me. I haven't watched it in a while, but I'm guessing the weird quote alignment has something to do with it.
Screenshot 8: In the Heat of the Night
Well, someone did get this one right, so there's that! A good movie too.
Screenshot 9: The Hit
And here we come to the "impossible" section of last month's challenge. I'd be surprised if anyone even heard of this film, let alone saw it and recognized the screenshot (I wanted to have at least one or two of these, but that must've backfired a bit). To be honest, it's not even that great of a movie. There are some things I love about it, but it's not the best ever or anything.
Screenshot 10: Spiral
Another one I'd be surprised if someone recognized, but it's a relatively recent mumblecore/emo horror/thriller thing that's worth checking out, if that sounds interesting to you:)
That wraps up the first installment. Good luck with the next one!
